Mineral Supplementation in Shrimp Hatcheries:
In the current hatchery industry, most shrimp broodstock is imported, which comes with the risk of adapting to the new conditions. To ensure that the shrimp can grow, develop, and reproduce effectively, it is crucial to provide adequate nutrients, including minerals.
Broodstock Acclimatization Process:
Before being cultured, shrimp broodstock must undergo an acclimatization period to adapt to the artificial conditions in Vietnam. During this time, daily mineral supplementation is essential to improve their health and help them adjust quickly to the new environment.
Broodstock Maturation:
Broodstock maturation is a crucial step in determining the success of artificial breeding. Shrimp should be fed with diets containing vitamins and minerals to enhance the development of ovaries. The deficiency or imbalance of specific minerals can negatively impact shrimp growth.
For optimal maturation, it is recommended to mix 3–5 ml/kg of feed and apply 1–3 ml/m³ of water.
Larval Stages:
During the larval rearing of white shrimp, several factors impact growth, survival rate, and the quality of larvae, with mineral requirements being essential for normal development. Minerals play a significant role in molting, as shrimp absorb essential minerals through their gills. Adding minerals directly to the rearing water helps replenish those lost during molting, contributing to improved larval growth and survival.
The addition of minerals also helps reduce the occurrence of cannibalism, as shrimp harden their shells quickly after molting, reducing aggressive behavior and improving survival rates.
To enhance growth during this stage, use 5–10 ml/kg of feed and apply 1–3 ml/m³ of water. For larval tanks, dissolve 7–10 ml/m³ of water and apply daily to reduce stress and improve transition to the next stage.
Commercial Shrimp Farming:
For feeding:
- In the farming process, add 3–5 g/kg of feed, twice daily, continuously.
- For shrimp with soft shells and bent tails, use 10 g/kg of feed for 4–5 days.
For water application:
- In the farming process, apply 1 kg per 2,000 m³ of water, every 5 days.
- When shrimp show weak feeding behavior, soft shells, bent tails, or muscle cloudiness, apply 1 kg per 1,000–1,500 m³ of water.
- To stimulate molting and ensure uniform hardening of shells, use 1 kg per 1,000 m³ of water.
